William Roberton<\/strong>, born New Monkland, Lanarkshire c.1779.1<\/a><\/sup>Taken from 1851 Census<\/span> His parents’ names are not known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janet Margaret Thom<\/strong>, born in Airdrie, New Monkland, Lanarkshire on 24 April 1785, daughter of William Thom and Janet Auld<\/a>.2<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Records, 1785 Births, 651 (Airdrie or New Monkland), 20\/223<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

William and Janet are in North Queensferry, Fife on the 1841 Census,3<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1841 Census, 424\/42\/13<\/span> where William is a Constable of Police, and in Bruce Street, Dunfermline, Fife on the 1851 Census4<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1851 Census, 424\/24\/9<\/span> where William is a Chelsea Pensioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William was also a Damask Weaver at one time according to daughter Elizabeth’s record of death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of her death in 1855, Janet is said to have been in Dunfermline for 21 years, i.e. since 1834.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janet Roberton<\/strong>, born c.1805, according to her mother’s death record.<\/p>\n\n\n

Janet’s year of birth varies between c.1805 to 1810 depending on various census returns and her death certificate. She was born in England.<\/p>\n

Janet married William Hutton (born Torryburn, Fife c.1810). They were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Torryburn on 14 July 1838.<\/p>\n

Janet died in Dunfermline on 4 March 1890.<\/p>\n\n\n

Agnes Roberton<\/strong>, born c.1807, according to her mother’s death record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William Roberton<\/strong>, baptised in Herne, Kent on 20 January 1811.5<\/a><\/sup>England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975, FHL Film Number 1836274, Reference ID item 7<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

The 1851 Census gives William’s place of birth as Dover Castle.6<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1851 Census, 692\/2 54\/13 <\/span><\/p>\n

William married Agnes Robison (b. St. Cuthbert’s, Edinburgh, Midlothian c.1816),7<\/a><\/sup>Year and place of birth from census returns<\/span> daughter of William Robison and Mary Oliver,8<\/a><\/sup>Parents’ names from Agnes’s death certificate<\/span> in Stirling on 4 October 1833. Both were at that time resident in Inglis’s Entry, Fountainbridge, Edinburgh. William’s occupation is Bookbinder.9<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Records, 1833 Marriages, 685\/2 (Edinburgh St. Cuthbert’s, 430\/70<\/span><\/p>\n

William and Agnes are in Roxburgh Place, Edinburgh on the 1841 Census,10<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1841 Census, 685\/2 245\/3<\/span> in Nottingham Terrace, South Leith on the 1851 Census,11<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1851 Census, 692\/2 54\/13<\/span> at 29 West Port, Edinburgh on the 1861 census12<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1861 Census, 685\/1 14\/9<\/span> and in the Vennel, Edinburgh on the 1871 Census.13<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1871 Census, 685\/1 3\/19<\/span><\/p>\n

William died in Stevenson’s Close, West Port, Edinburgh, Midlothian on 4 March 1878, age 66.14<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1878 Deaths, 685\/1\/285<\/span><\/p>\n

Agnes is in the Vennel, Edinburgh on the 1881 Census.15<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1881 Census, 685\/1 4\/15<\/span><\/p>\n

John Roberton<\/strong>, born c.1814, according to his mother’s death record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth Roberton<\/strong>, born Edinburgh, Midlothian c.1819.17<\/a><\/sup>Place and year of birth taken from census records<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

According to her mother’s record of death, Elizabeth was 38 in 1855, which puts her year of birth at 1816 or 1817.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth married John Younger<\/a> (b. Dunfermline, Fife on 2 November 1816),18<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Records, 1816 Births, 424 (Dunfermline), 90\/461<\/span> Damask Weaver, son of Alexander Younger and Janet Arnott<\/a>. They were proclaimed for marriage in the parish of Dunfermline on 16 July 1842.19<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, Old Parish Records, 1842 Marriages, 424 (Dunfermline), 170\/9<\/span><\/p>\n

John and Elizabeth are in Walker\u2019s Land, Pittencrieff Street on the 1851 Census, in Pittencrieff Street on the 1861 and 1871 Census and at 89 Pittencrieff Street on the 1881 Census.<\/p>\n

John died at 93 Pittencrieff Street on 8 September 1887, age 70.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth is at 93\u00bd Pittencrieff Street on the 1891 Census.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth died at 91\u00bd Pittencrieff Street on 27 May 1893, age 74.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Jane Roberton<\/strong>, born c.1821.<\/p>\n\n\n

Jane died in 1823 age 21 months.<\/p>\n\n\n
