Janet Howie<\/strong>, born in the parish of Mearns, Renfrewshire c.1838, daughter of Robert Howie and Isabella Craig<\/a>.5<\/a><\/sup>Parents’ names and place and year of birth taken from various census returns and marriage and death certificates<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Janet is at Cleuch Farm, Eastwood, Renfrewshire on the 1841,6<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1841 Census, 562\/1\/1<\/span> 18517<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1851 Census, 562\/1\/15<\/span> and 18618<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1861 Census, 562\/13\/10<\/span> Census. She is in Sheddens, Cathcart, Renfrewshire at the time of her marriage in December 1861. At this time she is probably living with her aunt Janet Craig, who was married to James Jackson.<\/p>\n\n\n

Alexander and Janet were married at Sheddens Farm, Cathcart, Renfrewshire on 1 December 1861.9<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1862 Marriages, 560\/1<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Witnessed by James Jackson and David Imrie. As mentioned above, James Jackson is probably Janet’s uncle, husband of her aunt Janet Craig. He is resident at Sheddens on the 1861 Census.<\/p>\n\n\n

Robert Howie Imrie<\/strong>, born at Eastwood Mains Toll, Eastwood, Renfrewshire on 5 August 1864.16<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1864 Births, 562\/296<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Robert is with his parents at Eastwood Mains on the 1871 Census and at Stewartfield Farm, Blantyre on the 1881 Census.<\/p>\n

Robert married Agnes Watson (b. Dalserf, Lanarkshire on 26 February 1868), daughter of William Watson and Betsy Paterson,17<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1868 Births, 638\/1\/56<\/span> in Larkhall, Lanarkshire on 20 April 1888.18<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1888 Marriages, 638\/1\/24<\/span><\/p>\n

Robert and Agnes are at 4 Church Street, Larkhall on the 1891 Census19<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1891 Census, 638\/1 5\/32<\/span> and in Charing Cross, Dalserf on the 1901 Census.20<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1901 Census, 638\/1 4\/20<\/span> His occupation is Railway Carter.<\/p>\n

Robert died in Raploch Street, Larkhall on 31 October 1929, age 65. His occupation was Railway Surfaceman.21<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1929 Deaths, 638\/1\/102<\/span><\/p>\n

Agnes died in Larkhall on 8 February 1950, age 81.22<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1950 Deaths, 647\/54<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Alexander is with his parents at Eastwood Mains on the 1871 Census and at Stewartfield Farm, Blantyre on the 1881 and 1891 Census. He is with his widowed mother at Hartfield Farm, Blantyre on the 1911 Census.<\/p>\n

Alexander never married. He died at Hartfield Farm on 8 May 1953, age 86.24<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1953 Deaths, 624\/41<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Isabella Miller Imrie<\/strong>, born at Eastwood Mains Toll, Eastwood, Renfrewshire on 13 October 1868.25<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1868 Births, 562\/403<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Isabella is with her parents at Eastwood Mains on the 1871 Census and at Stewartfield Farm, Blantyre on the 1881 and 1891 Census. She is with her widowed mother at Hartfield Farm, Blantyre on the 1901 Census. At the time of her marriage in 1901 her address is given as Stewartfield Farm.<\/p>\n

Isabella married John Aitkenhead (b. Devonhill Farm, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire on 19 July 1870),26<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1870 Births, 643\/74<\/span> son of William Aitkenhead and Agness Watt, at the Masonic Hall, High Blantyre, Lanarkshire on 9 June 1909.27<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1909 Marriages, 624\/23<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella died in the Maternity Hospital, Glasgow on 31 December 1909. Her usual address was Stewartfield Farm.28<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1910 Deaths, 644\/10\/1<\/span><\/p>\n

Isabella and John’s son William was raised by his aunt Margaret Jane Imrie.29<\/a><\/sup>Recounted to me by my mother, Margaret Imrie’s granddaughter.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Jessie Imrie<\/strong>, born at Eastwood Mains Toll, Eastwood, Renfrewshire on 5 September 1870.30<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1870 Births, 562\/347<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Jessie is with her parents at Stewartfield Farm on the 1881 and 1891 Census.<\/p>\n

Jessie married John Leitch (b. Abbey, Paisley, Renfrewshire c.1874),31<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1874 Births, 559\/2\/27<\/span> son of George Leitch and Jane Sinclair, at Stewartfield Farm on 31 December 1897.32<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1897 Marriages, 624\/9<\/span><\/p>\n

Jessie and John are in Main Street, Douglas, Lanarkshire on the 1901 Census. John’s occupation is Freestone Quarryman.33<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1901 Census, 641\/7\/21<\/span><\/p>\n

Jessie died in Main Street, Douglas on 9 September 1932, age 62.34<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1932 Deaths, 641\/27<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Thomas Imrie<\/strong>, born at Eastwood Mains Toll, Eastwood, Renfrewshire on 13 August 1872.35<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1872 Births, 562\/353<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Thomas is with his parents at Stewartfield Farm on the 1881 and 1891 Census, and at Hartfield Farm on the 1901 Census.<\/p>\n

Thomas possibly emigrated to Canada. A Thomas Imrie, age 48, was resident in Vancouver in 1921, giving his year of immigration as 1907,36<\/a><\/sup>1921 Census of Canada, Reference Number: RG 31; Folder Number: 19; Census Place: Vancouver South (Municipality), Vancouver South, British Columbia; Page Number: 23<\/span> and died there in 1927.37<\/a><\/sup>British Columbia, Canada, Death Index, 1872-1990, Registration Number 1927-09-382462<\/span><\/p>\n

Margaret Jane Imrie<\/strong>, born at Eastwood Mains Toll, Eastwood, Renfrewshire on 28 May 1874.38<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1874 Births, 562\/201<\/span><\/p>\n

Margaret is with her parents at Stewartfield Farm on the 1881 and 1891 Census.<\/p>\n

Margaret married Thomas McWilliam<\/a> (b. Greenhall Farm, Blantyre on 7 February 1872),39<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1872 Births, 624\/13<\/span> son of Thomas McWilliam and Christina Fleming<\/a>, at Stewartfield Farm on 10 January 1900.40<\/a><\/sup>National Records of Scotland, 1900 Marriages, 624\/26<\/span><\/p>\n

Margaret and Thomas are at Hallside Farm, Cambuslang on the 1901 Census and at Backrow Farm, East Kilbride on the 1911 Census.<\/p>\n

Margaret died at 35 West Port, Lanark, Lanarkshire on 3 June 1950, age 76.<\/p>\n

Thomas died at Craigmillar Castle Farm, Midlothian on 6 July 1956, age 84.<\/p>\n
